We have had an exciting few weeks in the Premier Wedding Planners Scotland office! As well as racing into wedding season (and about to under-go an website overhaul!), we have also been engaged in some very exciting talks which has resulted in an utterly fabulous affiliation!

To keep abreast of new trends and ideas within the wedding industry, we are avid readers of wedding publications from all over the world. American publication Grace Ormonde Wedding Style exudes style and sophistication like no other and we devour every last word and picture that they publish.

The Grace Ormonde Platinum List is an exclusive resource guide for brides-to-be looking for elite wedding professionals that are capable of producing the highest quality of work. They created the list to honour their commitment to bring their readers the very best choices when making their planning decisions. The entire magazine, cover to cover, is invitation-only, so we feel very privileged that they asked us to join the list.

We are very excited about the journey we will be taking within our business alongside Grace Ormonde Wedding Style. As pioneers within the Scottish wedding industry, we thrive on bringing a service that is second to none to our clients and keeping them at the forefront of new trends within the industry. We are looking to further this knowledge with our association with Grace Ormonde and also to introduce ourselves to a new client base.

So it’s that time of year again, dark mornings, cold crisp weather, roaring fires and of course the approach of Christmas and a new year. It’s hard not to feel the love at this time, therefore its no wonder so many engagements occur in winter. Fabulous stories I’ve heard lately have been a scuba diver in an aquarium holding a sign, a bonfire night proposal with a fireworks display and also a treasure hunt where the last clue lead to the man down on one knee. The question is though, how will you do it? The pressure of actually coming up with an idea for popping the question was why I though I would write a blog. If you are proposing the chances are you are relatively sure she/he is going to say yes, but this is going to be a moment they will remember for the rest of their life. In fact, when people find out about your engagement the two first questions you’ll hear are, “how’d (s)he do it?” and “when’s the date?”. Talk about pressure!

Firstly in my opinion it’s not about spending lots of money or it necessarily being grand. Thoughtful and creative should be at the forefront of your plans. Also, think about their personality – will they like a huge proposal in front of everyone or would they prefer it to be just the two of you? Think also about what they like. For example, if s/he has a favourite spot then you could go for a romantic picnic with their favourite food and ask for their hand in marriage. Does s/he love her iPod? Upload a voice memo of you proposing on it, or you could make a photostory on your computer of your life together, concluding it with a ‘will you marry me’ page. Another creative idea is to write your proposal in the snow on your lawn or car window (weather permitting!) Ask Google for inspiration if nothing is immediately springing to mind.

Another point to consider is the timing of your engagement. Is there a significant date in your life together? You could of course do it on Valentines day, Christmas day or on their birthday, or the stroke of midnight on new years eve/day – a new year and a new chapter in your life together. You might choose to do it on holiday, or just a day that has no particular significance (until the engagement of course!)

Saying that, one of the most romantic proposal stories I’ve heard was a woman being woken up early by her boyfriend and he proposed right there and then. Why? Because he had planned to do it when they went on holiday the next week, but after buying the ring that day before, he just couldn’t wait until their holiday, he had to do it right away. So sweet.

My final thought are, as a woman and as a wedding planner – chances are that s/he’ll prefer something classic, traditional, and timeless. Especially if you are proposing to a woman. You really can’t go wrong with that. Yes, it is possible to try something grand and totally out of the box but often it’s a risky move that should only be attempted if you know, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that they are the type of person who’d like it. If you are sure – go for it! And if you’re not sure? Then it’s safer to assume they won’t!

The couple arrived together at the legendary Eilean Donan Castle after a leisurely drive in a classic Beauford car. After the ceremony the couple had a sumptuous dinner and drinks reception at Toravaig House Hotel. More details to follow!

I have been addicted to following the tweets/facebook updates/blogs of designers and exhibitors involved in the Fall 2012 bridal fashion week in New York City – a bi-annual 3 day event featuring dozens of fashion shows from top designers (Vera! Monique! Reem!) designed to showcase the latest wearable confections from some of the best and the brightest in the bridal fashion world.

We know (not only because we are cooridnators but because we are women!) how hard it is to find ‘the one’ (the dress, although the man can be hard to find too but that is a whole different blog!) So if you’re looking for some dress inspiration here are some of the up-and-coming trends in bridal wear….

Firstly, it was no surprise that trule whites and ivory tones were back with a vengence. Whereas tones like nude, blush, gold, and off-white have popped up on runways in past seasons, this season has brought white back in to the forefront. That is, however, unless you are Vera Wang!  There was NO white in her collection! The designer showed dresses in sophisticated shades of nude, ivory, dusty rose and midnight black (yes, you did read right!)

Featherweight skirts were also popular. These sometimes can pass as ballgowns but they have a featherweight, ethereal quality and you won’t be weighed down with acres with fabric if you choose this style as ‘the one’.

Designers also favoured transparent and translucent fabrics. They used layers of fabric to reveal skin in ways that were subtly sexy and sophisticated.

Skirts made of laser-cut tulle and sheer organza were a clever, modern take on lace; like this one by Carolina Herrera.

Although there were short styles, many designers (like Reem Acra below) chose to keep it long but add a split to show some leg and keep it modern. Love!

Designers also added 3-D floral details to trains and bodices, like on this dress by Romona Keveza.

It was inevitable – the Kate Middleton Effect. Designers showed 3/4 sleeves that featured the demure look of the classic Duchess of Cambridge’s now-famous Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen frock. Check out Monique Lhuiller’s take on it below.

Can you believe summer is coming to an end? No, me neither! So with autumn just around the corner I’ve jotted down some fabulous ideas at add a sensational touch to your fall celebration.

Harvest Hues

The season calls for intense colours, so paint the party with brilliant oranges and reds, golden yellows, soothing creams and toasty browns. Look to crisp foliage, fiery sunsets and those amber waves of grain for more palette inspiration. Consider bouquets with yellow and white dahlias, bittersweet berries in vibrant orange and rusty red leaves is tied with white silk ribbon and jute twine. Devine!

Wonderful Wood

Rough-hewn textures will give your party a pastoral, vintage-chic quality. Swap glass vases for wooden window boxes and attach your menu to a piece of cedar. Lightly weathered barrels can double as side tables; use hand-carved pieces of wood as directionals in place of other signage.

Fall Feast

Devour hearty dishes that feature autumn’s harvest: tomato soup, roast turkey, rib roast or pork with apples. For dessert, apple or rhubarb crumble. Delicious!

Let There Be Light

In autumn, when days grow short, there’s nothing more captivating than an evening wedding illuminated with old-fashioned hurricane lamps, oil lanterns or pewter candelabras and votives set in magenta or brown glass holders.

Get Fired Up

If your venue will allow it why not have a bonfire after dark? Soooo much more original than fireworks! You could even provide marshmallows to toast!

Cover Up

Choose a snug shrug to ward off any shivers – be stylish and warm!

Unfortunately us mere mortals are going to have to wait until October to see the E! two-part televised extravaganza which will reveal every last detail of Kim Kardashian’s extravagant wedding to Kris Humphries. However, I couldn’t resist writing a quick blog about what we know so far. I know you brides to be are as intrigued/excited as I am about the nuptials!

It was no secret that Kim was wearing Vera Wang, with frequent paparazzi shots of her leaving Vera’s NYC store in the weeks leading up to the wedding. However Kim is said to have worn three different gowns throughout the day/night. Photos from the big day don’t reveal exactly what her dress for the ceremony was like – just that it was strapless and she wore a diamond headpiece which accompanied her veil. In fact, E! News reported that Kim wore a staggering $10 million worth of jewellery by her friend and engagement ring designer Lorraine Schwartz. The second dress, said to have been worn to her reception, was a satin V-neck gown, which she wore with her hair down around her shoulders and pinned back with a diamond clasp. The third dress reportedly with a mermaid-style skirt – can’t wait to see it!

Four hundred and forty-four lucky guests dined on a four-course feast designed by celebrated chef Wolfgang Puck. The menu included heirloom tomato salad, hand farmed Agnolotti pasta with sweet corn, marscapone and summer truffles, roast chicken with potato puree, caramelised brussels sprouts and summer truffles, followed by a dessert surprise.

The six-foot cake was designed to match the glamorous black and white theme and filled with chocolate and vanilla swirl and chocolate chips. After cutting the cake, Kim and Kris were serenaded by Robin Thicke, who sang Angels for the couple’s first dance. Then the party really got started, with a performance by Earth, Wind and Fire followed by tunes spun by DJ Cassidy.

This has certainly whet my appetite for the full details – roll on October!

This is just a very short blog post as 1) it’s wedding season, no time to write much! and 2) Usually I wait until I have all the photographs of the ‘big day’ before I blog. However, on this occasion I couldn’t resist a quick post just to show you this. This, my friends, is the magical work of Cherry Tree Films. Their work is truly amazing! This, combined with the fabulous personalities of our clients Scarlett and Jean-Charles, made for a match made in videography heaven! Sit back, enjoy, and try your best to translate! Ha ha, honestly though, you don’t need to be able to speek French to appreciate this film and see how in love they are.
